RUMTSE TO TSOMMORIRI TREK
Period: June – Mid October
Day1 Leh to Rumtse:
Transport by Taxi to Rumtse (4095m), which is about 70km from Leh near the Leh – Manali highway. As this trek is throughout well above 4000m be sure, that you are very well acclimatized before starting.
Day2 Rumtse to Kyamar :
After leaving the Tourist Bungalow and abandoned army huts behind you and crossing two rivers, the trail enters a valley. Following the discarded small rough road and crossing the same streams several times, you reach Kyamar (4383m) after 4 – 5 hrs. Camp overnight.
Day3 Kyamar to Tisaling (via Kymar La and Mandalchan La):
The trail ascends shortly after leaving the campsite with an easy start, getting harder approaching Kymar La (pass) (4870m). From the top take the right hand side trail, after an ascent it leads down to the valley (4700m). From the opposite side of the valley it is a tough ascent to Mandalchan La (4996m). Continue walking at the same height until Tisaling camping ground (4792m) comes into your sight. Approx. 6 – 7 hrs.Camp overnight.
Day4 Tisaling to Pangunagu/ Tsokar (via Shibuk La)
Shibuk La (5016m) is not very hard to climb. From the top you already get a view to Tsokar (Lake Kar). The descent is gentle but very long, leading through the valley and the desert at the end. Approx. 5 – 6 hrs.Camp overnight at Pangunagu near the Tsokar (4398m).
Day5 Pangunagu to Nuruchan :
It is an easy day walking along the Lake and on flat ground. So take your time to watch birds and to enjoy the beautiful scenery. Nuruchan (4500m) is located on the eastern part of the lake. Approx. 4 – 5 hrs.Camp overnight.
Day6 Nuruchan to Rachungkaru (via Horlamkongka La):
This day starts with a beautiful Mani Wall. The ascent to Horlamkongka La (4712m) takes about 1 1/2 hrs with an easy descent to follow. After crossing the river you have to climb another small pass with an excellent view of a group of peaks. The effortless descent takes you to a wide valley. You need to cross to rivers to reach Rachungkaru (4668m). Approx. 3 – 5 hrs.Camp overnight.
Day7 Rachungkaru to Gyamalhoma (via Kyamayur La and Gyamai La) :
Start climbing Kyamayur La (5125m) with the last part a bit tiring. The trail leads northeast and, at the end of the valley, starts ascending Gyamai La (5100m). Heading northeast you reach Gyamalhoma (4895m) after some stream crossings. Approx. 6 – 7 hrs.Camp overnight.
Day8 Gyamalhoma to Korzok / Tsomoriri (via Yalangyugu La) : The ascent to Yalangyugu La (5100m) along the stream is easy but long. From the top you can enjoy the amazing view of Tsomoriri. The zigzag trail down is very strenuous. Down you reach pastureland of Korzok village and nomad camps. Continue walking along the river and eventually you are at Korzok (4500m) near the lake. Approx. 6 – 7 hrs.Camp overnight.
Day9 Korzok to Leh:
After Breakfast we will drive towards Leh Alternatives: You can get a pick up from Tsomoriri to go back to Leh or you can go further on to Kibber.
